About Us
Ipplex researches and develops pioneering
cross-platform applications and services focused on
connecting people with the information, contacts, and places
they need to access. Our award-winning
iVisit
mobile and desktop video conferencing solutions have
made online meetings simple and affordable to deploy across
organizations of any size. Through the use of our unique
peer-to-peer architecture, iVisit has drastically reduced
the costs of unified communications and collaboration across
PCs, Macs, and mobile phones. iVisit also provides the
underlying technology for our
LookTel
assistance solution and iVisit Mx
telemedicine platform.
LookTel is a groundbreaking mobile application for
Smartphones that provides a full suite of accessibility and
assistance solutions for visually impaired and blind users.
LookTel combines real-time object recognition that lets
users identify specific objects such as packaged goods, CDs,
and money with text-reader capabilities using Optical
Character Recognition (OCR). If additional help is desired,
the user can immediately connect with a friend or family
member using live video or audio chat directly from their
mobile phone.
The app was developed by Ipplex under sponsorship from the
National Institutes of Health (NIH) and was awarded two
research grants from the
National Eye Institute (NEI) and
the National Institute on Aging (NIA). Over the past few
years, close to 40 users have been testing the system and
have provided convincing feedback that LookTel dramatically
increases their functional independence. With more than 345
million visually impaired people worldwide according to the
World Health Organization (WHO), and more than 11 million in
the U.S. alone, the LookTel app is poised to make a strong
impact on the lives of millions of people. LookTel was
recently awarded first place at the
2010 CTIA E-Tech Awards
for Mobile Applications in the Healthcare category.
Another Ipplex development project, iVisit Mx, is a complete
telemedicine solution poised to increase access and quality
of care for patients while substantially reducing the costs
of care. iVisit Mx allows patients to receive case
management and treatment by remotely communicating with
physicians, nurses and other caregivers face-to-face over
mobile devices and PCs connected to Wi-Fi, 3G+ or other
broadband networks. iVisit Mx integrates a full suite of
remote patient monitoring solutions as well. iVisit Mx was
awarded first place at the
2009 CTIA E-Tech Awards in the
Healthcare category.
Ipplex is working closely with its healthcare and technology
partners to deploy health services ranging from wellness and
disease management to shortening length of hospital stays
and emergency room visits.
CellUCare helps patients manage diabetes by providing
coaching and intervention, reducing the high costs of future
medical care, and giving patients a fast and easy way to
access vital information for their mobile lifestyle. Using
iVisit Mx's patented 2-way video conferencing, nurse
practitioners can talk face-to-face with patients in their
homes.
Another iVisit Mx partner,
Wound
Technology Network (WTN), uses the platform to remotely
treat patients with chronic wounds. Through its centralized
specialist call center, care management software, and use of
iVisit Mx, WTN offers patients a level of wound care
expertise, standardized protocols, and quality of care that
rivals the best specialty wound care clinics.
From live audio/video conferencing solutions to mobile
healthcare to augmented reality applications, Ipplex is
always one step ahead of the curve.
